Whisper handles the listening across 99 languages and NLLB-200 handles translation into 200, so most language pairs are a dropdown away rather than a different product.

A fullscreen output window with adjustable text size, colours and line count, sent to whichever monitor you choose, while you keep the controls on your own screen.

Sits over your stream

Optionally draw captions over an OBS Virtual Camera feed, so what your online audience sees matches what is on the screen in the room.

Knows scripture

Bible book names and scripture references are recognised and formatted rather than mangled phonetically, and a profanity filter can be left on for public display.

It listens

Rhema captures your microphone and detects where each sentence ends, so text appears in natural units instead of a jittering stream of half-words.

It transcribes

A small model shows text almost immediately, while a larger, more accurate one finalises each sentence a moment later. Both run offline on your machine.

It translates

Each finished sentence is translated locally into your chosen target language, with support for your own vocabulary list for names and terms that matter to you.

It displays

Text rolls up the output screen at a readable pace, sized for the back of the room, on whichever monitor or projector you selected.

What you need

Windows

Rhema is a Windows desktop application. The installer needs no administrator rights, so it works on managed church and event laptops.

An NVIDIA GPU is recommended

A GPU with roughly 4-6 GB of VRAM gives comfortable real-time performance. It runs on CPU alone as well, just more slowly, and it tells you which models suit your hardware.

Internet once, then never

The speech and translation models download the first time you use them. After that Rhema runs fully offline.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes, and it is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence. There is no paid tier and no trial. If it is useful to you, donations help pay for the time to keep improving it, but nothing is withheld if you do not give.

Does any audio leave my computer?

No. Both the speech recognition and the translation run locally. The only network request Rhema makes is checking GitHub for a newer version, and you choose when to do that.

How accurate is it?

It uses Whisper for speech recognition and Meta’s NLLB-200 for translation, which are strong open models, but it is not a human interpreter. Expect it to handle clear speech on a decent microphone well, and to struggle with crosstalk, heavy echo or very quiet speakers.

Can I use it for something other than church services?

Yes. Nothing about it is church-specific beyond the optional Bible vocabulary and scripture formatting. Meetings, classes and community events all work the same way.

What if it does not do what I need?

Ask. Feature requests go to GitHub Discussions and are read by an actual person. It is one developer, so not everything gets built, but a good idea has a real chance.
